Manchester Lesbian and Gay Chorus (MLGC) Announces Name Change to The Manchester Proud Chorus.
A new name that reflects our core value of being Manchester’s inclusive LGBTQI+ community choir.
30th June 2022.
Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus announced today that it has changed its name to the Manchester Proud Chorus, to better represent our core value of inclusivity. We are an inclusive community choir, where all are welcome, whatever their sexual or gender identity to join with the North West’s Premier LGBTQI+ chorus.
For more than 20 years we have welcomed all members of the LGBTQI+ community but over recent years, we have come to realise that our name did not reflect the diversity of the community we embrace. As an inclusive choir we wanted everyone to feel welcome, so the journey began to find a new name. After an extensive consultation process, which included the feedback from those who didn’t feel able to join, we voted unanimously to adopt the new name, the Manchester Proud Chorus, and move forward to an even brighter and more inclusive future.
“All members of the North West’s LGBTQI+ community and their allies can unite together under our new name, the Manchester Proud Chorus, and share in the joy of raising our voices together.” Cindylou Turner-Taylor, Co-Chair, the Manchester Proud Chorus
About the Manchester Proud Chorus
For more than 20 years our voices have been raised towards equality. We are a non-auditioned, community choir that aims to provide a safe and inclusive space for people to meet and sing together, and to promote a positive image of Greater Manchester’s growing LGBTQI+ community.
Together with our new sponsors AutoTrader and the ongoing support of Manchester City Council, we move forward into an even brighter future.
