Singing in Solidarity: Make Them Hear You

LGBTQ+ choirs from around the UK and further afield have joined together, to “sing in solidarity” with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C. (GMCW).

GMCW’s concert this May at the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts was cancelled, without explanation, days after President Trump ousted the Washington landmark’s leadership and took over, in February.

At the time, Trump had complained about drag performances, and told reporters this week (17 March): “We have to straighten it out.”

To show solidarity, Manchester Proud Chorus is among groups to feature in a new video performance of GMCW’s unofficial anthem, ‘Let Them Hear You’, from the musical Ragtime.

The project was lead by Manchester Proud Chorus’ musical director, Dan McDwyer, who also edited and produced the video.

Alongside Manchester Proud Chorus, the video features the Hong Kong Gay Men’s Chorus, Oxford Proud Voices, OUTLoud Lincoln, Rainbow Choir at Queer Arts (York), Pink Singers (London), Barberfellas (London) and The Lovenotes (Manchester).

The video is available to view and share on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.

We will not be silenced.
