The Manchester Proud Chorus is a friendly and diverse group of over 80 members. We welcome anyone over the age of 18 who identifies as a member or ally of the LGBTQI+ community to join us.
We are always interested in seeing new members, and you are most welcome to attend any of our Monday night rehearsals. Please let our membership secretary, Mike Lake, know you are coming, using the link at the bottom of the page. Then we can introduce you to some members and make sure you have any information you need.
We rehearse from 7pm to 9:15pm on Monday evenings (excluding public holidays) at Hallé St Michael’s which is at 36-38 George Leigh Street, Ancoats, Manchester, M4 5DG. This is situated just north of Great Ancoats Street, and is a 10-15 minute walk from either Piccadilly or Victoria stations. If you are walking via Piccadilly Gardens, use Lever Street and once you reach Great Ancoats Street, George Leigh Street is directly opposite. Hallé St Michael’s is on the right side of the street, no more than 2 minutes away. If you are driving, although there are residents parking spaces opposite, there are many roadside parking places free after 6pm. Arrive any time from 6:45pm.
As a community choir, we don’t audition our members. We recognise when people first join they are on a learning curve, and we are there to help you along and boost your confidence. You’ll soon find that singing together is a hugely joyful experience.
We have a small break in the middle of rehearsal and if it’s your first time we will make sure one of us welcomes you. Usually, some of us head for a local pub to socialise after the rehearsal. It’s a good place to get acquainted with other members.
We encourage you to be as comfortable as possible when you sing – sit down if you need to; move to the front if you are having difficulty seeing our musical director, or hearing the part; experiment by moving to a different section to see which suits you best and most important of all… enjoy yourself!
Our standard membership rate for members is £22 per month, payable by standing order. We have a concessionary membership rate of £10 per month for those who are unable to afford the standard membership rate.
We don’t expect you to pay straight away. When you first join, you will have a grace period of a few weeks during which you can decide whether the choir is for you.
Please contact our Membership Secretary, Michael Lake, for details of concessions covered, using the link below.
